Filipino communication trailblazer and constitutionalist writes autobiography

Tagpo is a Tagalog word that means ‘setting.’ Tagpo: Right Place, Right Time sums up the grand theme of this book where fortuitous events, which I describe as ‘being at the right place and at the right time’ or finding myself at the inception of a new project or innovation, appeared to be a pattern that shaped the course of my life. I also describe it as being present at the onset of a renaissance.” —Florangel Rosario Braid

Tagpo: Right Place, Right Time is a book on the life story of Florangel Rosario Braid, writer, educator, constitutionalist, painter, pioneer and expert in the field of communication and media, and social activist for peace, development, and nation building.

Braid is co-founder of the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication (AIJC), established in the Philippines in 1980, and one of the framers of the 1987 Philippine Constitution.

The book, published by AIJC, chronicles Braid’s personal and professional journey, highlighting her involvement in national and international initiatives, where she found herself not only in the right place and at the right time but also at the cusp of every breakthrough.

Braid started writing her autobiography Tagpo in October 2022, sharing her diverse experiences and pioneering efforts in harnessing the power of communication to create social change. Her journey is both personal and monumental, a testament to her undeniable impact on society. Her influence has touched countless lives, from grassroots community journalists to policy makers in the Philippines and abroad.

The book includes a bonus chapter and a spread of Braid’s paintings that reflect her personal and professional experiences, insights, and aspirations, demonstrating her ability to seamlessly transition between the written word and visual art.

There is also a chapter on AIJC’s history, milestones, and publications that can be used as reference by journalism and communication students, educators and professionals.

Proceeds from the sales of the book will contribute to a scholarship fund for underprivileged youth and community journalists who wish to pursue a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Journalism or Master of Arts in Journalism.

Tagpo: Right Place, Right Time will be launched on September 18. The book may be ordered through the AIJC website, https://aijc.com.ph/tagpo/. For inquiries about the book and bulk orders, email rpa@aijci.com.
