Final Class Showcase for Communication Audit Class –(1st Trimester – 2nd course)

22 July 2023 at Jinjiang Makati

23 September 2023

Ms. Maria Saddy Mila Ena Barranco Rillorta has said last week, 16 September 2023: “I think for me from the whole session this morning, what was made very clear was we first really need to understand our roles.”

This is why clarifying and understanding each one’s role in the organization is important.

Prof. Lady Ochel said: “For us to be able to really map out properly and identify also the stakeholders, because if it is not so clear what exactly is our role, what exactly it is that we need to do, then I guess we will not also be able to identify really who are the people that we should be engaging with based on the exercise that we had earlier.”

Each student will share the “Stakeholder’s Map” that he/she has done for the industry that he/she has chosen to analyze.

Prof. Lady Ochel Espinosa will deliver a lecture on stakeholder management relations.

Classification of Stakeholders

Background:

Each student presented his/her stakeholder mapping activity, with each one assuming a role in the organization where stakeholders are visibly involved. They classified various stakeholders in their mapping activities. For example, Jose Mari Aguilar Jalandoni, in this scenario he is the e-commerce head of procurement. He makes sure that all of the items and all of the materials needed by the company are procured on time and in the right quantities and with the right qualities to benefit internal stakeholders. Ma. Saddy Mila Ena Barranco Rillorta, in this case, commented that the procurement team that actually processes our activities conducts the process. Krishna Xeniteia Pusta Rola posed the question: So, you set demand and supply chain on e-commerce, why did you still opt to make your customers a secondary stakeholder when in fact they create the demand in terms of what kind of products or goods should be bought and sold in your e-commerce platform? Prof. Lady Ochel Espinosa emphasized that now, the students know the marketing agency, about what the agency needs, and then, when the marketing agency/contractor facilitates or formulates a way on how to supply what their client needs. The function of procurement thus needs to know what kind of stakeholder level you are giving them or identifying them with vis-a-vis procurement specifically and not being also the end users. Probably that’s not a question, but a suggestion to take note of in terms of definitions of what the function of procurement is.

30 September 2023

Prof. Lady Ochel C. Espinosa instructed the students to identify their stakeholders more clearly and map them according to separate functions. Students must create their selected scenarios and classify their stakeholders into primary stakeholders, secondary stakeholders, and so forth. Prof. Espinosa explained that some stakeholders may be double-booked or mentioned several times. It is important to identify and understand all these various relationships so the student will learn how to manage each level, each group, or each type of stakeholder.

Final Presentation of the Stakeholder Relations Management Class

Background:

According to Prof. Lady Ochel C. Espinosa, the main objective of today’s class is for the students to be able to know how to manage those expectations that are already on the ground. She also wants the students to be able to identify the kind of impact stakeholders have in relation to their public, and how that actually changes the way you, me, any PR, and any communicator will be able to know, craft stories, craft narratives based not just on the your expectations or perceptions, but on the kind of impact these perceptions and expectations are doing to your bigger world… your big project.”

The class also looked into the engagement strategies they have devised throughout the week. The class was led by Prof. Espinosa to be able to do some planning, which essentially involves stakeholder mapping.

One student, Atty. Karen Advincula Briones picked her two (2) stakeholders: (1) the PAGCOR Board of Directors, which is classified as high power and high influence, and (2) the gaming operators or the operators themselves, which she classified as high power but no influence. This is the POGO industry.

Atty. Briones discussed this from the point of view of the PAGCOR’s Offshore Gaming Licensing Department or the OGLD.  It is the department responsible for issuing licenses of these offshore gaming operators and they also craft policies for the regulation of the operations of these licenses in the country.

Prof. Lady Ochel Espinosa showed several PowerPoint presentations to the class to further clarify who the stakeholders are in an organization and how good relations with them will give the organization the boost it needs to successfully operate and achieve the specific goals set out for everyone in a specific manner.

Ethics, Media Laws, and Relevant Transnational Agreements
Ethics is a system of principles that guides action. While the law establishes what can and cannot be done in given situations, an ethical lapse can erode public trust; and in turn devalue the work of all PR practitioners. Ethics upholds personal, professional, social and moral values. Ethics and Law create a moral compass for navigating ethical dilemmas. The course features a survey of national laws and international agreements and protocols which impact on the communication profession and its practice.
