Juan F. Jamias
Professor emeritus in the College of Development Communication, University of the Philippines Los Banos; pioneered in agricultural journalism in the country; developed courses in the development communication curriculum; a communication specialist, consultant and lecturer who has authored/edited books and published research and scholarly papers on communication and development issues.
Juan F. Jamias is professor emeritus in the College of Development Communication, University of the Philippines Los Banos. There, for 34 years, he rose from the position of assistant agricultural editor to Professor V when he retired in 1990.
He pioneered agricultural journalism in the country, and after getting his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in the United States, he taught writing, communication theory and other subjects. Jamias also developed courses and the undergraduate major in science communication in the development communication curriculum.
He worked as a communication specialist and consultant in Singapore, served as visiting professor in Malaysia and Australia, and lectured on development communication in the United States. He was a lecturer in the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication in Manila.
He has published research and scholarly papers, written the Philippine chapter on a book on mass communication and ethnic coexistence in Asia published in 1999, and written/edited several books including Readings in Development Communication and Writing for Development.
He graduated with the A.B. degree in the U.P. in 1952.
