Dr. Paz H. Diaz

Dr. Paz H. Diaz finished her PhD in Communication from the College of Mass Communication of the University of the Philippines in 2000, with an Award of Distinction for her dissertation, Text and Discourse: Narrative Structures in Everyday Stories, an analysis of the stories of seven women entrepreneurs in the informal sector. Her MA in Communication Research was conferred also by the College of Mass Communication of the University of the Philippines in 1993, where she received the Best Thesis Award for her thesis, Mythologizing Women in Romansa Komiks. She finished her Bachelor of Literature in Journalism Degree at the University of Santo Tomas in 1962. Dr. Diaz served the UP Institute for Small Scale Industries as Training Specialist (1969-1998), the UP College of Mass Communication as Associate Professor (1998-2003), and the UP Open University as Dean of the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (2003-2007). She has traveled as ILO consultant and as entrepreneurship trainer for over 40 years designing training programs and conducting sessions on entrepreneurship, and community development in local communities as well as in developing countries in Asia and Africa. Countries she has worked in as consultant and specialist trainer are the following: Bangladesh, Botswana, Fiji, the Gambia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kenya, Lesotho, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tonga, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. She has attended seminars and other entrepreneurship conferences in Japan, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Germany, Australia, and the U.S.A. Presently, she works as Vice President for Academics and Dean of the Graduate School at the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication. She is a Trustee and the Board Secretary of the Small Enterprises Research and Development Foundation (SERDEF), and is a Life Member of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP). Two publications where she was involved as co-writer and editor are Windows to Entrepreneurship: A Teaching Guide (2014) for trainers or faculty members, and a partner textbook for learners, Entrepreneurship Study and Practice (2016).
