Chairman of the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication and NOW Group, co-founded SkyCable and led its day-to-day operations as Executive Vice President and General Manager. He is former UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines (UNACOM) Commissioner and Chairperson of the UNACOM Committee on Science and Technology. Velarde gained ownership of the Murillo Velarde 1734 Map in 2014 through a Sotheby’s auction in London and donated it to the Philippine government as his “gift to the Filipino people.”
